Advance Career Training

There are many times of higher education options available today. It is important that you are able to distguish the difference. At some point in your career you are going to desire some form of advance career training. If you are not careful, you could end up spending lots of money with very little return on your investment. Let’s explore your different options of career training.

First, there is the traditional college institution. These are the state colleges, universities and liberal arts colleges that you see listed in most magazines. They offer a wide variety of degree programs that last around four years. Most even offer graduate programs or even doctorate level courses. Think high cost, high value.

Second, there are online certificate schools. These cost much less and usually are not very recognized in the community. You either take a few classes online for 6 months or receive a self-study guide in the mail to go at your own pace. Most have a test that you mail in at the end and if you do well they will send a certificate in the mail stating that you had finished the coursework. Think low cost, low value.

Third, there are online institutions that hide behind a university name, but there degrees are not well received in the community. Reason being, is that these institutions are trying to appear to be the same level of education as the first example but usually do not have the accreditation or high standards to go along with it. Think high, cost, low value.

Lastly, there are career colleges. In the beginning of the life stage of career colleges they go a bad rap. Today, they hold a lot of value. It is way more than a student receiving book smarts, but most career college training involves a lot of lab and on hands training. Usually you can finish in about 12-18 months. What is great about receiveing advance career training from a career college is that they are usually on the cutting edge. We live in an age where new work models and positions are being created every year. If these institutions want to survive they have to produce a product that is wanted. This is why every new school year there are new degrees offered in order to keep up with the demand in the marketplace. Whether it is in computers, healthcare, personal care, or dentistry, they have to stay up with the times. Another great aspect of a career training institute is the job placement function of the process. Once you get to the end of your schooling, the school itself can assist in finding you a job in the career that you have chosen. This is a great asset to getting your career headed in the right direction.

You can even change careers while you are working. Many of the classes are offered nights and or weekends. This makes it easier for you to still maintain some income all the while pursuing a new career that you are passionate about.

The point in all of this is that there are too many career options for you to sulk and stay in one career that you hate. Do your homework. Do some research and find a career that you will love.
